Eligibility: Usually, a graduate degree in any discipline is required.
Duration: 1 year (often divided into two semesters) in many universities.
Mode: It can be offered full-time or via distance/open learning (e.g., IGNOU).
Assessment: Combination of theory exams, internal assignments, practicals, and sometimes a project or internship.
Outcome / Skills Gained: Students learn about library management, information organization, use of library software, digital libraries, user services, and legal/ethical issues in information science.
Career Paths: After BLIS, graduates can work in academic libraries, public libraries, special libraries, digital libraries, or pursue higher studies (like an MLIS).
